KARMA QUACKS
Ignorance destroys bliss
Good morning,
This little poem popped out late last night, after I was tagged by ellen newhouse to use the last line of her poem to start a poem of my own, and then tag more people. I hope my rather abrupt last line inspires those I tagged as much as Ellen’s beautiful last line, which landed perfectly as I’ve been upset by the cutting down of reeds around one of the ponds at the golf resort where we have a house in Spain.
I know I’m not the only one to have been upset as there was a flurry of wtf exchanges between other residents when, recently, instead being able to hide in the beautiful, natural, reedy habitat surrounding the pond, a mother duck and her babies sat there, in broad daylight, fully exposed. Why? What sort of ignorant, insensitive person orders this to be done? It’s not like the reeds looked ugly or anything, and there were water irises in full bloom, too. Reeds are the natural habitat of so many creatures.
I don’t know whether the fox got the duck and her ducklings. I hope that they were able to waddle over to one of the other ponds on the resort - in fact I saw a mother duck and some ducklings waddling across the course in front of our house, which they tend to do every year. So cute! But what if the others were too young to move?
People! Grrrr.
Anyway, thank you Ellen, for prompting this poem from me. I feel better having got it off my chest.
With love and gratitude,
Francesca xx
KARMA QUACKS
Grief and peace kissed the shore,
the reeds decimated,
the fox satiated,
because a smug slug in shiny shoes,
a thousand miles away
preferred Peking duck
to Mother duck.
I believe Karma quacks.
ILLICIT CROISSANTS AT DAWN - POETRY

I love this. This obsession with tidy nature must be stopped
Argh! Public works did it to a pond on a public golf course by our house - turned a beautiful bird sanctuary into an ugly mud-ringed pit.
