They rev their death bikes, Eager for a hit of speed. Their last words don’t land. Every weekend, so many ambulances and police cars rush up the mountain behind us to pick up the pieces of speed-crazed motorcyclists (and also motorists) on a road apparently begging for acceleration. I hate to think of what they find when they reach the accident. I hate to think of those poor policemen having to contact the families of the crash victims, and of the horror on receiving such a call. Please, if you love to drive a motorbike, try to rein in your desire to go fast, to take mad risks. Please be extra careful, if only for the rest of us. We love you! On a brighter, lighter note, my poetry book, ILLICIT CROISSANTS AT DAWN, will be available soon.

Excellent Advice, Cesca!
I love your haiku at the beginning, although the subject matter is sad. 😞 Thank you for sharing such poignant thoughts. It’s truly tragic to witness the consequences of reckless speed on the road, and your concern for both the riders and the families affected is evident. The trauma faced by first responders and the heartache for loved ones left behind is unimaginable. I echo your plea for motorcyclists and drivers alike to prioritize safety over speed. Life is precious, and our choices can make a significant difference—not just for ourselves, but for everyone sharing the road. We all deserve to enjoy our passions while staying safe. Your message of love and care for others is so important!
