I'm so sorry that such terrible circumstances inspired such a beautiful piece of writing.

OMLORDT, I'm so glad they're all right. And your mom's right, it could've gone a lot worse if both or one of them had been home. Thank you for sharing their story. The life they had sounds amazing. Swimming is one of my favorite Olympic sports, so I can only imagine how handsome your Dad was back then (hope that didn't sound creepy, LOL).

I am disgusted to read what happened to your parents. It is one of the reasons I would probably never move back to France, even though we lived there for over 25 years. Similar incidents happen all over the country. My 80 year old father-in-law who lives in Lyon was napping when someone broke in and stole cash and a few trinkets -- probably just as well he is deaf. Grateful they are safe, even if it will probably be a while before they get past the trauma (your Mom sounds just like I would under the circumstances but she is probably still reeling inside). Thank you for sharing their story!

Thank you Mel, everywhere is a mess at the moment. My mother is exhausted, she’s been cleaning non stop ever since and refuses to have anyone come in to help as she doesn’t want strangers going through their stuff again. The shock is huge. I’m sorry to hear about your father in law too, what a shock to wake up to. Where do you live now?

Oh, how awful for your poor Mom! My beau-père got over it pretty quick by getting a better lock installed, as there was little evidence of the break-in. We live on the other side of the Alps now, in Switzerland, just above Sion.

Ah! I live between Geneva and Lausanne, in Gingins, but also in Spain, near Girona. I’m going back to Switzerland tomorrow. We used to have a place in Crans Montana until two years ago!

What a violation, you must be so angry. Your parents sound wonderful, and I loved getting to read about their lives and your upbringing. So sorry this happened to them. I'm glad your son is nearby!

Thanks Anna. I was also glad he could just drop everything and drive over there to help. Xx

How awful. That had to be so terrible for them. It's one thing to have, say, a car stolen, but when it's personal items it's true violation. I'm so sorry your parents had to go through that. Your backstory makes this even sadder. I feel as if I know them now and I so want this to go away...

The important thing is they are unharmed. This sort of stuff happens everywhere, targeting the weaker members of society. She is absolutely, right, your mum, they had a narrow escape.

I know it does. My father kept on saying, over and over on the phone yesterday, I never thought this would happen to us. None of us ever do.

I’m sorry this happened to your parents. There is a toasty place in hell for the kinds of people who would do something like this.
