Me, in 1980!
I wrote this poem quickly this morning before hopping in a taxi to Barcelona airport to fly back to my home in Geneva as this weekend is the centennial anniversary of my school, the International School of Geneva. There will be three days of festivities, with people flying in from all over the world. We have school reunions every five years, but this is a huge one, so it's going to be special. Lori Lieberman will be there performing Killing Me Softly, which is a song she wrote, and that Roberta Flack recorded back in the day. Lori Lieberman went to my school, which is pretty cool. My friend Carolien is arriving from Belgium on Thursday morning and staying with me, so we will be doing lots of giggling, and reminiscing, and whatshallwewearing, and doesmybumlookbiginthising! I can't believe it's been so long since I graduated (1980!!). Time is supersonic, I swear. Here is my poem: JUKEBOX Flopping on bean bags, stretched out on the floor, Goofing and giggling like young Labradors. The jukebox is blasting, free periods, break time, Boules de Berlin filled with jam in our mouths. Aerosmith, Supertramp, AC/DC, Electric Light Orchestra, The Eagles and Queen. Hot chocolate and coffee and croissant, pommes frites, The school cafeteria within our easy reach. Gorgeous Stalhandske and lovely Hermann, Wonderful Stuart, enigmatic Dejan. Vinita, Bettina, of course Carolien, Friendships withstanding the passage of time. Crushes and blushes and notes passed in class, Heartbreak and homework, diplomas to pass. Snippets of memories from so long ago, I can’t wait to see you this week to make more!
I hope you had a great time. I never went to my high school reunions, and to be honest, I don't even know if they still have them anymore.
