All this is so familiar! Gee your hair smells terrific was available in Greece at the time, and it felt like owning a secret weapon for a while. Until I switched to a Greek brand that made my hair smell like cherries, and that became my favourite for a while. Seventeen of course was read cover to cover, and memorized by heart!

Having graduated from high school in 1972 and attended college in the mid-70s, I can completely relate to the American products and advertisements you mention. "Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific" was a hugely popular shampoo, and your essay really brought back great memories of using it. I remember how wonderful it smelled and how the musk oil in the formula helped repair my dry hair from competitive swimming. Although the original formula is no longer available, there is a new version that claims to have the same scent, though it lacks the musk oil.

I found your essay to be a delightful reflection that sparks a sense of nostalgia for those years. I look forward to purchasing your book soon and eagerly await the publication of your poetry. Thank you for sharing your writing and becoming an author—the literary world is lucky to have you pursue your passion for storytelling. Thank you, Francesca!
